N.V.B.K. Belgian Ring

The Nationaal Verbond der Belgische Kynologen (N.V.B.K.) is the largest Belgian Ring organisation in Belgium today, with over 100 clubs and over 1600 members. The N.V.B.K. came to existence in 1963 after a large number of members of the "official" Ring organisation (KMSH) broke away due to the falling standards and expectations of the existing Ring competition. Since that point the N.V.B.K. has been the highest level of Ring in Belgium and their dogs have been of the highest quality, surpassing those of the KMSH, and now the F/St. Huberts.

The Belgian Ring contains exercises that test obedience, agility and protection. The thing that makes the Belgian Ring different to the other dog sports, was that there is a big emphasis on environmental distractions, with control of the highest level needed. Belgian Ring is considered by most educated working dog people as one of the hardest dog sports possible today. Belgian Ring is alot harder than IPO or Schutzhund, as it requires a stronger dog to be able to compete, and so much so, that the only breed winning is the Malinois.

N.V.B.K. Certificate

Due to the difficulty of the N.V.B.K. program, it was considered by the board of the N.V.B.K. that their needed to be an introduction exam, similar to a French or Mondio Ring Brevet, be introduced to allow people around the world, and also beginners in Belgium, to train towards a certificate prior to undertaking the full program.

The N.V.B.K. Certificate is an excellent introduction to the sport of Belgian Ring, and still requires a good dog together with good training to pass. You can read the full rules here
